My grandmother is the keeper of the memories… she holds the stories, the antiques and the photos. One night at dinner with me and my daughter, she brought out generations worth of our family’s wedding photos. Sitting there, looking at my great-great-grandparents on their wedding day with my daughter and her great-grandmother, I was struck by how grateful I am to have those stories in time, preserved in a way that lets me experience these family members - pieces of my own story - who I never had the privilege of meeting.
Similarly, Mom thoroughly documented my childhood on film, printed those photos and created impressive albums that my siblings and I still love to sit and look through together.
It’s with the same reverence that I approach every couple, every family, every wedding day. With every decision to make a photograph, I’m already thinking about the legacy you’ll leave behind and how the photos we make together will become precious pieces of your family's history. I’m envisioning your children and grandchildren (and great-great-grandchildren!) flipping through your wedding album, amazed by how hot you looked, how in love you were, and the fun you had with all of the people you love most.
I have done my job well if you get to experience every memory while it is happening - you'll be part of the moment, not just the photo. Yes, I know, you don’t know what to do with your hands and you think you’re awkward or not photogenic. That’s the beauty of my approach and documentary-like style… I’ll prompt your interactions in a way that feels really natural to you, inspires confidence, and produces authentic images. And yes, I’ll always ask which one is your good side!
